About Me
I am a few years into retirement from a career in mental health. I designed and oversaw a variety of rehabilitation day programs for people with diagnoses of serious mental illness, often described as having a psychiatric disability. These included especially clubhouses, but also day treatment, employment supports, day rehabilitation and sheltered workshops. I became committed to the peer recovery movement later in my career.
Now I am a novelist and blogger, trying to use my experience to write entertaining stories that explore issues that stayed with me from my mental health work. My blogs reflect my strong feelings about the work, while my novels bring to life the work and experience of people I encountered. I have been studying writing at Grub Street in Boston, and depend on a wonderful writers group, the Sweetwater Draft Society, along with graphic artist Brett Poza; see her work on her site,
I am blissfully married to Dolores Schueler since 1969 and the father of a wonderful Ben, who currently attends the graduate in physical education at Springfield College. Dolores and I live in Arlington, Massachusetts with our dog, Nora (above, with ball).
