- Rothica microphylla (formerly Clerodendrum incisum) or Musical Notes is a fast growing tropical perennial flowering shrub that blooms throughout most of the warm season in tropical climates. It is also commonly called Witchs Tongue, Morning Kiss and, Do Re Mi Flower. This plant has many interesting uses.
- Though short-lived, and lasting only a few days, the flowers are showy and eye-catching by virtue of their abundance and cool, calm elegance. However, it is the unique and interesting shape these pretty flowers have in the bud stage that makes this plant most appealing. The round, flat buds nod from atop long, green stems that arch from a central terminal in a cluster on long stems resembling a musical note.
- Care: Easy to grow and quick to establish, this plant thrives in a permanent location with 4 to 6 hours of indirect light daily. Plant in fertile, well-draining soil and maintain consistent moisture. Prune after flowering to maintain shape and control size.
- Indoor Growing: This species is not well-suited for indoor growing and can be difficult to successfully overwinter due to its need for high light, warm temperatures with a day/night differential, and high humidity. It is best enjoyed as a seasonal container plant and brought indoors only for the briefest time necessary to protect it from frost or freezing.
- Climate: This plant is a semi-tropical perennial recommended for USDA Hardiness Zones 8B, 9, 10, and 11. In Zone 8B, plant early in the season and protect from cold until established. We recommend protecting from frost and freezing in all zones for the best appearance and longevity. Plants go through a winter dormant resting phase in all climates.
