Biden Makes Us Proud

I have to think even some in our chronically detached and distracted electorate have to be impressed with the job President Biden is doing in regards to Ukraine. He has been engaged, strong and energetic, going to our NATO allies and impressing them with his leadership and commitment. He is showing all the qualities that the Republican Party of cynics and suckers and their Fox News allies have said he lacks, projecting a steadfast strength and resolve that his predecessor never managed. In a just world, he would enjoy the soaring popularity he deserves, but as he makes us proud, at least we can say we helped elect him. Perhaps that same electorate will wake up to it’s responsibilities and self-interest and strengthen the majorities for his party in the mid-terms. Despite his only modest rise to the mid-forties in the polls, I haven’t given up hope.

This post was published as a letter to the Editor of the Boston Globe on March 26, 2022. It was submitted just before reporting surfaced of Biden’s ad lib remark to the effect that Putin should not continue as leader of the Russian Federation. Though known throughout his career as a gaff machine, Biden has been remarkably disciplined as president, but this marked a return to his previous form. I still stand by the overall thrust of my letter, but you may feel differently. Please comment.
